Play On by Carrie Underwood
No one really likes being sad. It’s not fun, it’s uncomfortable, and most of the time it’s very lonely. Sometimes it can be paralyzing and overwhelming, but it always helps me to remember that sadness is the necessary flip side of the coin to happiness. How can you truly measure the true heights that happiness can bring without some sort of counterpoint to compare it to? One does not exist without the other, and the depths make the highs all the more sweeter.
When those times come my way, I have learned just to sit with them a while. They are often therapeutic and times to stop and recenter your self. It’s OK to be sad just do not make it your permanent residence. That’s where this song comes in with gentle encouragement not to quit and to keep moving forward. Maybe that is simplistic. I’ll take that, because I’m a pretty simple guy. And who the hell said everything was supposed to be complicated anyway?
